Motorola's and Sony Ericsson's handset outsource orders for Taiwan-based makers should each return to above 10 million units in 2011, according to industry sources.
Motorola had outsourced 3-4 new handsets that were based on MediaTek solutions to Arima Communications beginning at the end of the third quarter of 2010 with shipments of about two million units. Motorola will introduce 3-4 more feature phones in 2011 and has already sourced low-end Android devices from Compal Communications and Foxconn Electronics.
Sony Ericsson's feature phones also boosted Arima Communications 2010 shipments. The Taiwan-based company should see even more orders this year as Sony Ericsson has 3-4 more handsets in the pipeline, which reportedly include models with touch screens and QWERTY keypads.
Orders from Nokia and LG Electronics are not expected to see significant increase in 2011. Nokia will continue to source low-end CDMA and GSM devices and mainly work with Foxconn and Compal Communications. LG is cooperating with Arima Communications for 2-3 handsets.
