Fujitsu EcoPad: Your fingers do the charging.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

The designers of the Ecopad mention that this concept generates electricity thanks to the touches on its touch screen. They say that a nano-piezoelectricity film would capture a tiny bit of energy whenever a user presses the screen with their fingertips. It sounds like a cool idea, but I have trouble imagining how practical this would be for generating enough power to operate a tablet.

The Ecopad concept was given a special award in Fujitsu and designboom’s ‘A Life with Future Computing‘ design competition for its innovative approach to juicing up.

Judge's Special Award (awarded by Kimitaka Kato, President, Fujitsu Design Limited)

Title: ecoPad
Designer: Yonggu Do / Jun-se Kim / Eun-ha Seo
Country: South Korea
Description: Electricity is generated when the user presses the touchscreen of this PC, which can power itself. The design is environmentally-friendly and technically viable.

HP has acquired Printelligent to boost printing services.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

HP already claims to be at the top of MPS, and that this acquisition will only “strengthen HP’s leadership.” It’s doubtful that Printelligent was much of a competitor for HP, but it has the software, resources and infrastructure that HP wants.

HP also cites the “trained workforce of Printelligent,” so possibly everyone over at Printelligent will be integrated into HP.

Printelligent has been on the scene for the last 23 years as a national managed print provider. When the deal is done, the company will be integrated into HP’s Imaging and Printing Group within the LaserJet and Enterprise Solutions unit.

From then on, it will be used to “help HP’s channel partners extend their customer relationships” and “optimize the traditional technology environments.”

The deal is expected to close during the third quarter of this year, and financial terms were not revealed.

LTE India 2011: In 2012 India will be ready for 4G.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

India is all set to move on from 3G to 4G LTE, leading industry and technology experts said at LTE India 2011 international conference.

“With mass adoption, lowest cost per bit, highest capacity, best user experience and a true global standard, the world is stepping into 4G expecting 380 million LTE subscribers and 80 plus LTE networks by 2015”  said Mr. Sujit Bakre, Nokia Siemens Networks head of 4G business development.

“India could lead LTE-TD broadband technology developments” Mr. Mallikarjuna Rao, chief technology officer of Aircel said at the conference. The reason: “lot of competence in this area is returning to India from outside”.   DOT, Ministry of Communications & IT, advisor (technology) Shri J. Gopal was guest of honour at the international conference, second one in the last two years on this latest development in mobile phone broadband technology.

Bharti Airtel VP for networks Mr. Puneet Garg put 2012 as the year of “next step towards a broadband wireless revolution using LTE” that “will change the way people connect to communicate”  Bharti Airtel was ready for this change over, he said.

LTE or 4G would be a smooth transition using core set up of the 2G/3G networks, several experts emphasized at the conference, a transition “dramatically matured”.  Already with globally 18 launches with 208 network commitments, the 100 Megabits per second LTE service was described by several experts and operator executives as providing a “unique consumer experience”.  Worldwide trials had already started in 2010.

In China large scale trials had been started by China Mobile. In India Qualcomm and Huawei had set up a trial network in Hyderabad.  “It is an opportunity for India to telescope change but the technology would support only  four or five operators provided they have a pan India reach” according to Mr. Mallikarjuna Rao.

Mr. Amaru Chavez Pujol, Group CTO of Etisalat, a multi-continent operator company,  defined LTE as a ”strong  and well-defined data interface that promises a new reality”.

Warning that India could not afford to miss the universal broadband overage, “a single most imperative in this country to take our nation forward “Shri Rajan S. Mathews, director-general of Cellular Operators Association of India said auction was not the best way for the national imperative move forward.   Defining a new take on the widely acclaimed auction route Mathews pointed out this route was shifting a vast amount of resources from the private sector to the government sector and to restore the balance of dynamism in the spread of mobile broadband it was necessary to bring that money back in the service of the spread and reach of the telecom-broadband networks.   He suggested greater active infrastructure sharing, operator efforts to determine and invest in what the consumer really want and a greater attention to local language services for success in India of the broadband revolution sweeping the world.

Making it truly global platform to conduct business, global majors engaged in wireless  broadband technology - Nokia Siemens Networks, Qualcomm, ZTE, Huawei, Samsung, Alcatel-Lucent, Tekelec, Verint Systems, DragonWave HFCL & Tellabs  participated in the event & shared their plans for India.

Key executives from telecom operators like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Aircel, BSNL, MTNL, Reliance Communications, TATA Teleservices, Sistema Shyam, Etisalat, Videocon Telecommunications and Uninor had attended the conference.

At the Computex 2011 in Taiwan ,Asus officialy announced the Padfone, to Feature a Smartphone that Docks Into A Tablet.

 Asus Remains Quite On Specs.

The video promo below shows  a 4.3 inch smartphone and a 10.1 inch tablet. And as you can see from the above image, the smartphone portion docks into the back of the tablet.

That all being said, the Padfone will solve at least one issue that often bothers those who carry a smartphone and tablet — data plans. With this you can have the data plan on your smartphone and then have it shared with the tablet (when the phone is docked).

As the smartphone docks inside the tablet, the users can look at the bigger screen of the tablet and get an expanded view to suit tasks. The phone neatly docked inside can now recharge from the tablet’s larger battery and can be used for a longer time.

Enhanced connectivity of the pad / tablet is made possible as it can now utilize the the smartphone’s 3G internet connection using only 1 SIM card. Applications seamlessly transition and there are no data transfer issues between pad and phone.
