O2 Telefonica Germany will start marketing LTE commercially from 1 July.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

The operator will market two packages under the O2 LTE fuer Zuhause (O2 LTE at home) brand, offering mobile broadband access for residential and small business customers. O2's LTE package offers maximum download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps for EUR 39.90 per month.

During the first six months of a 24-month contract, the monthly fee is EUR 29.90.

The package includes 10 GB per month for residential customers and 12 GB per month for small business customers, after which the speeds are downgraded to UMTS level until a new month begins.

Telefonica Germany offers a LTE-enabled wireless router for EUR 49.90, with a connection fee of EUR 49.90.

Each customer can test the new broadband service for a period of 30 days. During this period they can cancel at any time and get their money back for the WLAN router.

O2 LTE fuer Zuhause will be available in several rural communities, including Oberreichenbach in the Black Forest and Abtsteinach/Bergstrasse or Zscherben in Saxony-Anhalt from 1 July, with expansion planned in other communities, such as Wanzleben and Alsleben in Saxony-Anhalt by the middle of July.

Telekom Deutschland and Vodafone Germany already offer commercial LTE services in rural areas around Germany.

All three operators use the 800 MHz band spectrum they acquired during the mobile spectrum auction in May 2010.
