HTC to reduce tablet PC models for 2H11. But to launch Puccini AT&T 4G,probably.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

HTC plans to reduce the number of tablet PC models to be launched in the second half of 2011 from two to one as sales of Android-based tablets have been squeezed by Apple's iPads. The company is also unlikely to launch its new tablet model, the HTC Puccini, in June, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.

The shift in product roadmap will make HTC unable to ship two million tablet PCs in the year as projected by industry watchers earlier, said the paper.

The report comes as recent market rumors stated that HTC will launch the HTC Puccini in June in cooperation with US-based carrier AT&T. The HTC Puccini reportedly will have a 10-inch display, runs on Android 3.0 and will be compatible with AT&T's 4G networks.

The paper doubted that HTC will launch the Puccini in June as reported because HTC is only just ready to officially market its 7-inch HTC Flyer tablets in the US market after it began to take pre-sale orders via BestBuy early in May.
