Building on the successful launch of HP webOS 3.0, HP today announced it is accelerating the global expansion of webOS.

To support this next phase of growth, HP has appointed Stephen DeWitt as senior vice president and general manager of its webOS global business unit. Jon Rubinstein, the visionary behind webOS, will assume a product innovation role within the Personal Systems Group (PSG) at HP.

This announcement underscores HP's strategy to provide a seamless, secure, context-aware experience across HP's product portfolio, and to deliver innovation at unmatched scale.

"With the successful debut of our first wave of webOS-based products, we are drawing on our deep executive bench to position the right leaders in the right roles to accelerate the long-term growth of webOS," said Todd Bradley, executive vice president, Personal Systems Group, and member of the Executive Board, HP. "Stephen DeWitt has a proven ability to build and scale organizations into global, multibillion dollar operations, and I am confident that he will take webOS to the next level. At the same time, we continue to leverage the core strengths of Silicon Valley icon Jon Rubinstein to apply his considerable talents across the PSG portfolio."

DeWitt, who has been leading the PSG Americas region at HP, will be responsible for all aspects of the webOS business, including engineering, research and development, sales, marketing and go-to-market support. In his new role, DeWitt will spearhead the creation of a fully integrated, global developer and independent software vendor program to deliver new consumer and business applications. DeWitt's team also will create a dedicated mobility practice with HP's partner community, with the goal of delivering consumer and enterprise solutions globally.

DeWitt has dramatically improved PSG's profitability and share position in the America's region since his arrival to HP in 2008. He is succeeded by Stephen DiFranco, head of the Solutions Partners Organization for the Americas region at HP.

HP will leverage Rubinstein's passion for building exceptional consumer products and his long history of driving game changing innovation, such as webOS.

HP today announced that it has appointed Stephen DiFranco to serve as senior vice president and general manager for the Americas region of its Personal Systems Group (PSG), reporting to Todd Bradley, executive vice president of PSG.

DiFranco will replace Stephen DeWitt, who has been named senior vice president and general manager of the webOS global business unit.

 HP will begin an active search to identify a new leader of its Solutions Partner Organization (SPO), with that business continuing to report into PSG Americas. DiFranco will continue to oversee SPO until that role is filled.

"Stephen DiFranco has shown the leadership and operational discipline that exemplifies our executive bench," said Todd Bradley. "His experience driving profitable growth with our channel partners will be essential to leading PSG's business across the Americas region."

In his new role, DiFranco will be responsible for driving the marketing, sales and operations strategy for the continued growth of PSG in the United States, Canada and Latin America. Stephen will be responsible for the financial performance of both the commercial and consumer business. PSG’s portfolio includes PCs, mobile products, client virtualization and connected entertainment solutions, internet services and support for consumers, small to midsize business and enterprise customers.

In his former role as general manager of SPO – Americas, DiFranco successfully oversaw alignment and collaboration across HP’s partner network, driving continued growth for HP partners throughout the region.  He bolstered HP’s channel efficiency by aligning the channel to major industry-specific cycles to better meet the needs of partners. He also successfully evolved the economics of HP’s channel business by enabling partners to better measure the return on investment of their HP relationships.

DiFranco joined HP from Lenovo last year, where he served as vice president of consumer and commercial channels, managing the company’s channel business in the United States and Canada. Prior to Lenovo, DiFranco held senior marketing positions at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Maxtor Corporation.

Motorola has officially unveiled the successor to the DROID 2 with the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) powered DROID 3. Coming in at 0.5-in (13 mm) thick, Motorola is calling its new device the world's thinnest smartphone with a physical full QWERTY keyboard. Motorola's original DROID (a.k.a. Milestone, 2009) and the DROID 2 (2010) were both well-spec'd Android QWERTY sliders when introduced, so we wouldn't expect anything less with the DROID 3.

 It outshines its predecessor with a larger and higher resolution 4-inch qHD 960 x 540 touchscreen, doubles the internal storage to 16 GB and now includes a front facing camera for video calls.

Powered by a dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP4 CPU with 512 MB of RAM, the DROID 3's 8-megapixel camera is equipped with autofocus and an LED flash and can record Full HD 1080p video that can be outputted to an external display via HDMI. 

There's also a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front facing camera for video calls and a microSD card slot to add another 32 GB of storage space. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and DLNA, but no 4G/LTE support. It also comes with Adobe Flash Player 10.

The device works as a 3G mobile hotspot, with the ability to connect up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices. For enterprise buyers, Citrix GoToMeeting and Citrix Receiver come pre-loaded, along with device and SD card encryption, complex password support, remote data wipe of device and SD card,(up to 32GB microSD card removable)   and Quickoffice available out of the box. To make switching between work and home, ESP smart dock technology allows users to apply a set of predefined user settings, depending on the place where the DROID 3 is docked (e.g. home, office, car).

The Motorola DROID 3 is priced at US$199.99 with a 2-year Verizon Wireless contract and US$459.99 for just the smartphone. Verizon starts shipping DROID 3 from July 14.

Verizon Wireless and Motorola have teamed on the launch of the new Android 2.3-powered DROID 3 by Motorola. 

The smartphone claims to be the world’s thinnest full QWERTY smartphone, running a dual-core 1 GHz processor for fast multi-tasking. 

It will be available from July 14 for US$199.99 with a new two-year customer agreement from the US carrier.

Motorola cuts Xoom prices in the US and Taiwan. More tablets vendors to cut prices.

Motorola Mobility has lowered the price of its 32GB Wi-Fi-enabled Xoom tablet PCs for sale in the US from US$599 to US$499 and in the Taiwan market from NT$19,800 (NT$687) to NT$16,900.

Motorola's price reduction comes after rival Asustek Computer launched its entry-level Eee Pad Transformer tablet PCs in the US market in May for just US$399, according to industry sources.

More tablet vendors are likely to cut their product prices prior to the launch of iPad 3 and Google's next-generation Ice Cream Sandwich tablets to avoid the piling-up of old models, the sources commented.

Acer is likely to be forced to lower prices of Iconia tablet PCs in August in order to fulfill its goal to ship 2.5 million tablets in 2011, noted the sources, adding that Acer's tablet PC shipments could have been below 300,000 units for the year so far.

Toshiba is also expected to reduce the price of its Android 3.0-based AT100 tablets in the Taiwan market after August, added the sources. The AT100 is currently available at NT$18,800.

ViewSonic to launch 7-inch tablet with Google Honeycomb OS

ViewSonic plans to launch the world's first 7-inch tablet PC running on Google Honeycomb OS soon. The 7-inch tablet will be powered by a dual-core Tegra CPU with a display solution of 1024 by 600 and support Wi-Fi technology initially.

The company pointed out that Google is currently working on optimizing its Android Market applications to allow them to better fit onto 10.1-inch tablet PCs, and is also working on resolving some issues with Android's compatibility on 7-inch tablet PCs.

 If Google is able to resolve the issues before the end of July, when the Taipei Computer Application Show will start, ViewSonic plans to start selling its 7-inch device at the show, and if not, the company will push pre-orders.

ViewSonic pointed out that smartphones have a high market penetration rate in Taiwan and any smartphone with Android 2.2 or above can be used as a wireless router for tablet PCs to connect to the Internet; therefore, the company will initially only push Wi-Fi support for its 7-inch tablet PC.

In consideration of markets such as India or Indonesia, which do not have a strong Wi-Fi environment as in Taiwan, ViewSonic, in the near future, will also launch 3G models to better serve these markets, the company noted.

World's first PCI Express 3.0 motherboard debuts by MSI.

Taiwanese manufacturer MSI has announced a new motherboard Z68A-GD80 (G3), which according to the company will be the world's first motherboard to utilize the PCI Express Gen 3 (3.0) bus standard. 

 Featuring a BIOS with a graphical user interface, the motherboard boasts two PCIe 3.0 slots (1x16, 1x8), which provide a 2x faster transfer rate than the 2.0 standard with a maximum bandwidth of 32GB/s, and support for 3TB drives. It is also equipped with an Intel Z68 (B3) chipset and supports the LGA1155 socket to work with Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs.

The motherboard comes with Click BIOS II technology, "which utilizes a unified graphical interface in both Windows and in the UEFI BIOS" and offers touchscreen support, as well as the OC Genie II which MSI says is capable of increasing CPU, memory, iGPU and HDD performance by pressing a single button. The mainboard is equipped with Military Class II components, which is designed to ensure stability and long lifespan.

The MSI Z68A-GD80 (G3) features two USB 3.0 external ports, HDMI v1.4 and DVI outputs, four DDR3 memory slots with dual channel support (up to 32 GB), FireWire and SATA 6 Gb/s connectivity. MSI Z68A-GD80 (G3) supports AMD Crossfire, NVIDIA SLI multi-GPU solutions tailored for hardcore gamers, as well as Virtu Switchable Graphics, which allows the power of a discrete GPU and integrated GPU to be combined.

MSI also says that that PCE Express 2.0 SSDs perform 13 per cent faster when connected to the new motherboard, compared with its closest competitors.

While the MSI Z68A-GD80 (G3) appears to be available now, there's still no word on price. 

How the HP webOS TouchPad 64GB might look like ? and probably prices.?

According to freevistasoft the HP webOS 64 GB might cost  £ 560 Wi-Fi only , or £ 660 libras  Wi-Fi + 3G., with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor 1.5 GHz dual-core. Where freevistasoft got those prices, they did not say, but looks more for the UK consumers.
