2012: iPad 9.7 inch panels to top over 65 million units.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Shipments of 9.7-inch flat panels for iPads are expected to top over 65 million units in 2012 compared to 48 million units shipped in 2011, DisplaySearch has estimated.

The 9.7-inch panels shipped in 2011 were XGA (1024 by 769 pixels) panels, supporting IPS or FFS technologies, with 54% of total shipments coming from LG Display, 40% from Samsung Electronics and the remaining 6% from Chimei Innolux (CMI), DisplaySearch said in a Chinese-language press release.

However, shipments of 9.7-inch iPad panels in 2012 will come in QXGA (2048 by 1,536 pixels) and XGA standards, with QXGA panels likely to exceed XGA models. LG Display, Samsung and Sharp will be the main suppliers for high-resolution displays, added the market research firm.
