Michael Dell, founder and CEO of Dell Inc, speaks about the new Dell Venue 8 7000 series tablet at the 22014 Intel Developers Conference in San Francisco on Tuesday 9 Sept in San Francisco. The Dell Venue 8 7000 Series tablet is the world's thinnest tablet with the world's best tablet display available.
The Dell Venue 8 7840 is 6mm (0.24 inches) thick making it the world's thinnest tablet. It also comes with four cameras, three of which can take '3D images'.
Dell CEO Michael Dell took the stage with Intel CEO Brian Krzanich during the opening keynote of the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) to preview the upcoming Dell Venue 8 7000 Series, a tablet co-developed with Intel and featuring an impressive series of “firsts.”
IDF is a launch pad for innovation, sparking inspiration in developers, makers and creators alike, and treating attendees to first looks of the latest groundbreaking advancements in the tech world.
This year was no exception with Michael’s reveal. The Venue 8 7000 Series will be the world’s thinnest tablet, will feature the world’s best tablet display available (8.4” OLED display – 2560x1600) and will be the world’s first tablet with an Intel RealSense Snapshot Depth Camera.
The Intel RealSense Snapshot pushes the capabilities of digital photography to a whole new dimension. The camera captures a depth map for every picture you take, allowing you to measure objects to scale like furniture or room dimensions with a simple photo in the Dell Gallery. You can use this function to map out the floor plan for your new apartment, purchase furniture for a renovated living room, or commemorate your highest ascent at the local rock climbing gym. There are a number of artistic benefits as well. People will have much more power and flexibility with editing photos by applying 3D filters, such as changing the brightness only on a foreground object or background object.
Also at IDF, I participated in the Mobility Mega Session, calling on developers to create apps for the RealSense camera.
These new apps and platforms will galvanize consumers and creative professionals alike to bring new depth to their dream projects, and potentially change the landscape of art, design and business.
I also revealed that in addition to the Venue 8 7000 Series Michael had shown on the main stage, we’ll be releasing a 10-inch version – the Venue 10 7000 Series early in the New Year.
As Pund-IT recently said of our new commercial client announcements, we are focused “on solving the common, real-world problems [our] customers face day in and day out,” so these tablets aren’t designed to be worn on your wrist; but, at a razor thin 6mm they will offer truly functional portability.
