Component suppliers are expected to benefit from the iPad 2 's imminent launch. Both TriQuint Semiconductor and Skyworks Solutions will be the new Apple device's GaAs power amplifier (PA) suppliers.
As for Taiwan-based GaAs foundry houses, Visual Photonics Epitaxy Company (VPEC) and Advanced Wireless Semiconductor Company (AWSC) should see February revenues increase as both companies have also entered the iPad 2 supply chain via their PA clients TriQuint and Skyworks.
Skyworks' first quarter revenues should only decline by less than 10% sequentially due to contributions from new Apple products, according to analysts. TriQuint could also be looking at a 11-15% drop in first-quarter revenues, but analysts pointed out that the company's order visibility in 2011 remains positive.
In addition to the soon-to-launch iPad 2, PA makers pointed out that other vendors will also introduce new tablet PCs. Smartphones and tablet PCs will be the main growth drivers for the PA segment. Most tablet PCs incorporate on average three PAs.
