MACLOCKS

Maclocks, the leading maker of world's first iPad lock will be introducing 'CartiPad'- the revolutionary iPad cart & iPad mini cart at CES. The Apple security and display solutions company will be displaying its highly modular, cost effective and ready to assemble iPad cart line of products, which are perfectly suited for iPad deployment targeted within retail and education (k-12 & higher education).

The CartiPad will be available in 3 basic configurations: a wall mount iPad charging unit, a modular 16 units iPad cart and a modular 32 units iPad cart. Its unique features enable the accommodation of any tablet/netbook up to 13" making it a truly universal tablet cart & laptop cart.

"We are excited to be presenting 'CartiPad', our new division of iPad charging solutions at CES 2013. Demand has been extremely high in the industry and the variety of an affordable iPad cart solution is lacked. It's not easy combining good design and good function with the right quality, at an affordable price but then we aren't known for cutting corners. By working together with skilled designers and industry experts, we are constantly looking for smart solutions to meet our customers needs " says Alexander Gad, Maclocks GM.

" Anybody can make a good-quality product for a high price, or a poor-quality product for a low price. But to make good products at low prices, you need to develop methods that are both cost-efficient and innovative. We are constantly trying to do everything a little better, a little simpler, more efficiently and always cost-effectively," adds Gad. " We have managed to reduce costs and provide with a low cost shipping method for a high price tag product. Our flat-packs and our customers' willingness to assemble the iPad cart themselves enable us to reduce shipping, labor and storage costs by 80%! Maclocks designs an iPad cart so that it can be shipped ready-to-assemble (RTA). Ultimately, this means that we are able to offer our customers a super secured iPad cart at unbeatable prices."

The patent pending design of 'CartiPad', Maclocks iPad cart, along with the company's complete line of Apple hardware security solutions will be available for review in Maclocks booth 3606 at the CES 2013 during January 8 to 11.

CES2013: Ford OpenXC Platform Is Now Open for Vehicle Data, Customizable Hardware and Open-Source Research.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús

CES2013: Ford OpenXC Platform Is Now Open for Vehicle Data, Customizable Hardware and Open-Source Research

On the heels of launching its first software developer program, Ford is now turning its attention to the growing trend in hardware hacking by transforming vehicles into an experimental development environment.

The OpenXC research platform from Ford is now out of beta and available to all "makers" and do-it-yourselfers at http://openxcplatform.com.

Earlier this week at the 2013 International CES the Ford Developer Program was launched making the SYNC® AppLink™ application programming interface (API) available for the creation of smartphone apps that can be controlled inside the car using your voice.

While AppLink is available in Ford vehicles now, OpenXC is focused on the future as an open-source hardware and software platform developed by Ford Research and Innovation to unleash the power of the open-source hacker community to explore what can be done with vehicle data.

"Ford is committed to innovating with the help of software and now hardware developers," said Paul Mascarenas, Ford vice president and chief technical officer. "By connecting cars and trucks to wireless networks, and giving unheard-of access to vehicle data, entirely new application categories and hardware modules can be explored – safety, energy efficiency, sharing, health; the list goes on. OpenXC gives developers and researchers the tools they need to get involved."

The OpenXC kit includes a vehicle interface module based on the popular Arduino platform developers can use to read data from the vehicle's internal communications network. The hardware module provides real-time access to parameters like the vehicle sensors, GPS receiver and vehicle speed. The hardware module is connected to a smartphone or tablet on which apps can be written to consume and use these data.

The read-only system is designed to keep everything isolated from the vehicle control systems. The OpenXC website also provides schematics, documentation and code for open-source hardware modules, including the wireless solar-powered heads-up display developed by OpenXC co-founder Bug Labs.

"Through the OpenXC platform, we are paving the way for new opportunities that will help us prepare for the future of transportation where the automobile, mobile networks and the Internet cloud come together in ways never before imagined," said Venkatesh Prasad, senior technical leader of Open Innovation for Ford Research and Innovation.

"OpenXC is an extension of the work being done at the Ford Silicon Valley Lab focusing on big data, open-source innovation and user experience," added Mascarenas. "We are enabling independent developers to flesh out their ideas using affordable and accessible hardware and software tools."

Some of the areas developers can target with OpenXC include:
  • Big data – Ford is increasingly a data-driven company fusing both internal and external sources to guide product and marketing offerings and support strategic decision making. In addition, vehicle data from the growing list of sensing technologies built into the car can be used locally to provide for the creation of a more personalized, convenient and productive driving experience, and aggregated to help address congestion and improve efficiency
  • Open-source innovation – Viewing the car as a platform and providing access to real-time data allows for the rapid development of custom hardware and software applications. Ford has extensive experience in development of on-board and off-board applications for production cars using the SYNC in-car connectivity system, and now the Silicon Valley Lab is looking at open-source research using the OpenXC platform
  • User experience – Connectivity is an increasingly important part of the total user experience while driving. Finding new ways to reduce stress and keep the driver informed can make driving a more pleasant experience
Early in 2012 Ford shipped the first OpenXC beta toolkits to universities such as the University of Michigan, MIT, Stanford University and HCL Technologies in India. Since that time, OSIsoft has sponsored a hackathon to create an application using vehicle data from OpenXC in combination with its enterprise data analytics platform.

At Michigan State University, a team of undergraduate students has built an Android app that uses OpenXC to collect data from the Ford MyKey® system into a centralized database and present it in visual report card format.

WorldWide Tech & Science Francisco De Jesus.

HP ENVY 27-inch IPS monitor with Beats Audio ™

CES2103: HP Unveils World’s First Beats Audio–integrated Display and new products.

HP today unveiled fresh, new offerings, including the world's first display with integrated Beats™ Audio, the HP ENVY 27-inch IPS Monitor; HP's most affordable touch notebook PC ever, the HP Pavilion TouchSmart Sleekbook; and a pocket-sized storage device for wireless content streaming, the HP Pocket Playlist.
First standalone monitor with Beats Audio
The HP ENVY 27-inch IPS Monitor with Beats Audio has the power to perform and the looks to wow. Developed collaboratively with Beats by Dr. Dre™, it provides a unique and immersive audiovisual experience. Built-in speakers angled upward deliver great midrange and high frequencies, with equally rich bass. The studio-quality sound on the HP ENVY 27 monitor allows consumers to hear music the way the artists intended.
The In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel provides a viewing angle of 178 degrees horizontally and vertically so friends can enjoy entertainment content without having to crowd in front of the display. Edge-to-edge glass, a super-slim design (13.95 mm thin at top) and a narrow aluminum base make the display look great in a home or office. Unique audio aspects, including a conveniently located headphone jack, subwoofer and digital audio output are included.
Thin and light notebook PCs for everyone
The HP Pavilion TouchSmart Sleekbook and the new HP Pavilion Sleekbook provide affordable performance in a thin and light package. Powered by an AMD A-Series APU, the newest HP Sleekbooks feature a 15.6-inch diagonal high-definition (HD) display;(1) up to 1 terabyte of storage for apps, movies, music, photos, documents and more;(2) Dolby Advanced Audio; a removable battery; and a numeric keyboard for increased productivity.
A full array of ports including HDMI, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 provide fast connections to mobile devices and accessories.
The HP Sleekbooks include HP TrueVision HD Webcams(3) and HP MyRoom for video calling and sharing photos in a private virtual room. Optional AMD Radeon discrete graphics on select models enhance the gaming experience and improve video creation and playback.
The HP Sleekbooks also feature exclusive HP innovations, including HP CoolSense, which adjusts cooling levels according to a customer's personal preferences and results in a noticeably cooler PC, and HP ProtectSmart, which helps prevent file loss in case of a bump. HP Connected Photo powered by Snapfish by HP(4) and HP Connected Music powered by Meridian allow users to access their favorite photos and music seamlessly.(5)
These new HP Sleekbooks join the 14-inch and 15.6-inch HP Sleekbooks announced on Sept. 20.
Breakthrough entertainment device
The HP Pocket Playlist goes beyond what's expected from portable media storage and entertainment. With no internet connection required while streaming and no need for a data plan, this innovative portable device streams unencrypted content—movies, music, TV shows and photos—to up to five mobile devices at the same time.(6) This premium entertainment device acts like a home DVR but is smaller and lighter than the average smartphone, making it easy to take anywhere.
The HP Pocket Playlist comes with a one-month subscription to PlayLater,(7) a new DVR app for online content. This app allows prerecording of videos from more than 50 online websites for playback later without an internet connection.(8) The device holds up to 16 full-length movies, 7,600 songs or 10,000 photos, and plays to most Wi-Fi enabled Android, Windows® and iOS mobile devices.(6,9)
Innovative consumer and business monitors
The HP Pavilion IPS LED Backlit Monitor series (models 20xi, 22xi, 23xi, 25xi, and 27xi) brings premium-quality IPS technology to everyday computing at affordable prices. With upgraded 178-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles, these displays deliver clear, vivid images across the ultrawide viewing spectrum. The monitors also are upgraded with a thinner HP industrial design, and connectivity that covers digital, multimedia and analog options. With unique HP features such as controllable power-saving modes and customizable screen settings with integrated HP My Display software, consumers can partition the screen so that multiple application windows can be open at the same time, while also saving user-preferred settings for easy startup.
The HP x2401 24-inch LED Backlit Monitor is a microthin monitor with MVA technology that produces wide viewing angles for vivid, consistent color. The monitor features an adjustable easel stand and L-connectors to keep cables in the back for a clean look, and includes DP/HDMI connectivity and a VESA mount. It has a brushed metal finish and is ideal for customers who value design innovation.
The HP U160 15.6-inch LED Backlit Display is 1.02 inches thin and made for the on-the-go business professionals who need a convenient, portable monitor for productivity. The monitor connects to any notebook with a USB port and sets up and folds down in a snap. The "flip and fold" stand deploys the monitor quickly and helps protect it while stored, making it ideal for mobility. Designed to share content and provide extra screen real estate, the monitor works with a single cable, allowing customers to easily work at the office or in a hotel room, restaurant, lobby or public meeting space.
The HP ProDisplay Series (available in 18.5-inch, 20-inch and 21.5-inch models) gives the everyday business display an upgrade. Practical, reliable and designed with energy efficiency in mind, this display has excellent front-of-screen performance for crisp clear text and images and more screen room to roam. A sculpted, soft black slender form almost vanishes into the background and keeps the vibrant images displayed on the LED backlit panel the main focus.
The HP ZR2330w IPS LED Backlit Display offers business-class performance at a budget-friendly price. IPS technology delivers brilliant color from almost any angle, and because this monitor is equipped with advanced connectivity, this display is perfect for multiscreen setups. VGA, DVI and DisplayPort inputs work with legacy and new devices while the integrated USB hub keeps peripherals close at hand. Flexible height, tilt, swivel and pivot adjustments offer true ergonomic benefits to customers so they can be productive throughout the day.

CES2013: Subaru to debut StarLink.

CES2013: Subaru to debut StarLink.

Subaru of America, Inc. announced today that it will debut a new STARLINK in-car connectivity brand at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Subaru STARLINK cabin technology represents the automaker's new infotainment strategy. For the first time ever, Subaru will have a stand-alone presence at CES, demonstrating its driver-friendly Aha integration and Eyesight® driver-assist system on the all-new 2014 Forester.

STARLINK is the product of a new, cross-functional infotainment team created by Subaru parent company Fuji Heavy Industries. The global team of engineers, planners, and marketing strategists are working together to enhance connectivity & safety technology features in Subaru vehicles, while also simplifying and reducing overall cabin complexity.

"Subaru is proud to unveil STARLINK cabin technologies at the world's largest consumer electronics tradeshow," said Akio Takai, FHI Deputy General Manager, and leader of the infotainment cross-functional team (ICFT). "We understand that the driving experience is about much more than mobility, and we know that today's car shopper is looking for technologies that are value-added but also safe, helping them accomplish their daily errands without adding to driver distraction."

STARLINK Infotainment
The STARLINK connectivity suite offerings begin with the trend-setting Aha service by long-time Subaru partner HARMAN International. With Aha, Subaru drivers can safely access tens of thousands of stations of Web-based content such as: NPR® podcasts and 900 NPR member radio stations available via streaming; on demand music services such as Slacker® MOG® and Rhapsody®; news, talk radio, and podcasts from around the world; CBS RADIO's Radio.com; free audio books; personalized hotel recommendations from TripAdvisor; customized weather, surf and local park information; Facebook® and Twitter® newsfeeds in audio; and personalized restaurant and cafe recommendations from Yelp®

The channels from Aha are constantly changing and growing, allowing customers to always be able to access their favorite content from the web.

"Subaru STARLINK is about enhancing the driver's experience," said David Sullivan, Cross-Car Planning Manager for Subaru of America. "Aha gives drivers an easy, inexpensive and safe way to interact with information from their smartphone device without touching it while driving - the simple to use interface is transferred to your vehicle navigation screen automatically. We research, talk, and interact with consumers regularly – and many are looking for a safe way to utilize their apps in-car. We think the Aha app integration is a great way to kickoff our STARLINK efforts, and has much of the content our customers are looking for."

STARLINK will continue to grow, adding content partners and connectivity capabilities over time. It will debut in the all-new 2014MY Subaru Forester in all navigation-equipped vehicles, and will also be introduced as a running change in 2013MY Subaru Legacy & Outback models equipped with factory navigation. 2014MY Subaru Impreza, BRZ, and XV Crosstrek models will all be adding STARLINK integration this summer as well.

EyeSight
Combining safety and convenience features, the Subaru EyeSight driver-assist system is one of the most affordable technologies of its type available in the United States market. EyeSight integrates adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, pre-collision throttle management, and vehicle lane departure and sway warning. Under certain circumstances, EyeSight is able to bring the car to a complete stop, thus avoiding a collision.

EyeSight uses two charge-coupled device (CCD) cameras developed by Subaru, and supplied by Hitachi. EyeSight is mounted inside the car on the upper edge of the windshield, thus reducing the potential for damage that could occur in bumper-mounted systems, such as radar. The EyeSight system processes stereo images to identify the vehicles traveling in front, as well as obstacles, traffic lanes and other items. The video information is relayed to the EyeSight module, which is also networked with the car's braking system and electronic throttle control, among others.

Below closing speeds of approximately 19mph, EyeSight is capable of detecting pedestrians in the vehicle's path and can activate in order to mitigate or even avoid a collision.

"Our STARLINK connectivity strategy builds on the Subaru heritage of fun-to-drive vehicles that are recognized for best-in-class safety and durability," said Takai. "As technology evolves, so will our STARLINK offerings. We look forward to satisfying our customers more in the future with this new direction at Subaru."

CES2013: Newer Technology Announces Next-Generation Power2U AC/USB In-Wall Charging Solution.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Newer Technology Announces Next-Generation
Power2U AC/USB In-Wall Charging Solution

First Patented, UL Listed Dual-Socket Wall Outlet with Two Integrated USB Ports
Now Offers NEC Tamper-Resistant Receptacles and 20Amp Rating

Ideal for Simultaneous Powering and/or Charging Two USB and Two AC Plug- In Devices
In Residential, Commercial, Hospitality, Education, and Municipal Applications

Newer Technology, Inc. (NewerTech®) announced today that it will introduce its next-generation Power2U™ AC/USB Wall Outlet in Other World Computing’s (OWC) booth #5812, LVCC North Hall, during the Consumer Electronics Show which begins Tuesday in Las Vegas, Nevada. Designed to enhance living and working spaces by eliminating the need for power adapters, the Power2U AC/USB outlet now features NEC tamper-resistant receptacles and is available in a new 20 Amp model for residential and commercial, hospitality, education and municipal applications. Visitors to the OWC booth will be able to experience the convenience of the Power2U firsthand by charging up one of their USB or AC powered devices.

Patented, UL-Listed Design Complements Any Décor
A leading developer of Macintosh®, PC, iPod®, iPhone®, and iPad® performance upgrades and accessories, Newer Technology introduced the Power2U at the 2012 CES show as the first patented and UL-Listed device to seamlessly blend into any wall as a standard power outlet. Users can access two traditional three-prong AC wall sockets in addition to two USB 3.0/2.0/1.1 ports without encountering ‘plug barriers’ found on similar devices that can prevent multiple devices from being charged/powered simultaneously. Available in four decorator colors, the Power2U is a basic ‘DIY’ install in a 16-cubic-inch electrical box. A “straightforward” rated “how to” video showing how the Power2U can be installed in as little as 20 minutes is available at: http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/nwt_power2u/

Money Saving, Energy Efficient
While the new 15 Amp and 20 Amp outlet models feature NEC tamper-resistant receptacles, the Power2U retains its main consumer appeal of offering a clean looking, modern, centralized location for charging/powering USB devices. In addition to being convenient to use, the Power2U continues to provide two energy efficiency features. The intelligent Smart Power design only outputs enough charging power to meet the requirements of the device that is attached. The specially designed spring-loaded Safety Shutters completely turn off power to the USB ports when a connecting cable is removed to prevent “vampire draw”.

Power2U Features:
  • Patented design prevents “plug barriers” to enable charging/powering up to four iPads, iPhones, iPods, Android tablets and phones, MP3 players, GPS, digital cameras, and other USB 3.0/2.0/1.1 devices simultaneously without requiring a bulky adapter
  • NEC tamper-resistant AC receptacles
  • Available in UL-Listed 15 Amp and 20 Amp rated models for residential and commercial uses
  • Smart Power feature only outputs enough charging power required by the attached device
  • Energy efficient, spring-loaded Safety Shutter design turns power off to USB ports when connecting cable is removed to prevent “vampire draw”
  • Uses standard four-pin type-A jack USB cables
  • Available in four decorator colors: White, Black, Ivory and Light Almond
  • Includes mounting screws, matching wallplate and illustrated step-by-step installation manual

“The Power2U has been a huge hit in homes across the country, and the new 20 Amp model will now allow commercial, hospitality, education, and municipal settings to offer its benefits,” said Grant Dahlke, Brand Manager, Newer Technology Inc. “Because USB charging is a universal standard on many devices, the appeal of this product to consumers, hardware retailers, homebuilders, and facility managers is unlimited. We invite CES attendees to visit OWC’s booth and experience firsthand the convenience Power2U offers.”

Pricing and Availability
Priced at $29.95 MSRP for the 15 Amp model and $39.95 MSRP for the 20 Amp model, the enhanced Power2U AC/USB Wall Outlet will be available for ordering by late Q1. The Original Power2U 15 Amp model is available for immediate purchase for as low as $14.99 and $11.50 when two our more units are purchased. Shares Same Features of Original Model Praised by Media and Consumers
The next-generation Power2U shares many of the same features of the original model introduced at CES 2012 that captured broad praise from professional media and consumers. Good Morning America called it ‘brilliant’; and the Miami Herald named it ‘gadget of the year’. It received the Handyman Club of America highly coveted Seal of Approval. The Power2U also recently won a 2012 People’s Choice Stevie® Award in the Favorite Consumer Electronics Product category at the 2012 American Business AwardsSM

CES2013: Audio-Technica Win CES Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering Award

Audio-Technica's ATH-ANC9 QuietPoint®
Active Noise-Cancelling Headphones
Win CES Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering Award

Audio-Technica announced that its ATH-ANC9 QuietPoint active noise-cancelling over-ear headphones have received a CES Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering award from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). The     ATH-ANC9 offers new features including exclusive Tri-Level Cancellation™ selectable noise-cancellation settings, an inline microphone and controller for answering calls and controlling music and more.

and here for the "Silence Redesigned" video, recently featured on a number of TV networks:

Products entered into the Innovations 2013 program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the media. The entries are judged based on engineering, aesthetic and design qualities, the product's intended function, use and value, unique features that consumers would find attractive and other attributes.

The ATH-ANC9 (SRP: US$349.95) blocks up to 95% of outside noise, while delivering superlative sound quality. Audio-Technica's Tri-Level Cancellation provides three preset filters for noise reduction over a wide range of environmental noise conditions. Mode 1 is ideal for use on airplanes, trains and buses and applies maximum noise-cancellation to low frequencies. Mode 2 is designed for use in noisy offices and crowded places, and targets midrange frequencies. Mode 3 is best for already-quiet locations like libraries.

The ATH-ANC9 features a cable with an inline microphone and controller for answering calls and controlling music playback. The mic and controller support most Smartphones as well as select products including the iPhone™, iPad® and many iPod® models.

The ATH-ANC9 has replaceable memory foam earpads for unmatched comfort, and its precision 40 mm drivers and electronics provide clear, natural full range sound. The ATH-ANC9 also works when the noise-cancelling function is turned off, and operates in passive mode without batteries. The headphones fold flat for storage and come with two detachable cables, a 1/4-inch adapter, an airline adapter, a hard carrying case and an AAA battery.

Audio-Technica's new QuietPoint® "Silence Redesigned" video was recently featured on major TV networks including BBC America, CNBC, Discovery Channel, ESPN2, National Geographic Channel, Spike, The Weather Channel and more.
