LG Shows Its First OLED TV With Curved Screen.
New OLED TV Underscores LG's Status as Technology and Design Frontrunner/

LG Electronics (LG) today demonstrated its continued OLED TV market leadership with a revolutionary curved model, the EA9800, shown for the first time here today at the 2013 International CES. Featuring proprietary WRGB technology, the incredibly thin display features a dramatic curved design and a vivid picture quality that is practically indiscernible from colors found in nature.

The unique new EA9800 model features the industry's very first curved screen ergonomic design with full CINEMA 3D support. With a gentle inward flex, the entire screen surface is equidistant from the viewer's eyes, removing the problem of screen-edge visual distortion and detail loss. Availability and pricing were not announced.

"LG is the first to launch the 55-inch OLED TV," said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG's Home Entertainment Company. "We believe our new OLED TVs offer the ultimate viewing experience, surpassing anything seen before. The new curved model complements our core OLED TV family with a unique design that capitalizes on the thinness of the screen and the aesthetic beauty of OLED TV."

LG's OLED TVs produce astoundingly vivid and realistic pictures, thanks to superior WRGB technology. This unique Four-Color Pixel system features a white sub-pixel, which works in conjunction with the conventional RGB setup to create the perfect color output. The built-in Color Refiner delivers even greater tonal enhancement, resulting in images that are more vibrant and natural than anything seen before. The 55-inch OLED TV also offers an infinite contrast ratio, which maintains optimal contrast levels regardless of ambient brightness or viewing angle. To complement the infinite contrast ratio and enable the richest color and deepest black expression, the High Dynamic Range (HDR) algorithm has been incorporated. This technology also ensures contrast ratio consistency and maximum color separation.

As OLEDs generate their own light, there is no need for a separate backlight, enabling LG OLED TVs to boast a significantly reduced weight and depth, and a stylish, minimal appearance. The EA9800's streamlined, ultra-modern design and curved screen remove any hint of visual distraction to maximize the viewing experience. Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) has been implemented to further reduce unit weight and add additional strength to the beautifully curved screen. The OLED TV's sleek styling and slim profile complement the stunning images brought about by LG's WRGB technology, helping to create what is truly the ultimate immersive viewing experience.

LG's Paper Slim design effectively unifies screen and stand into a seamless aesthetic entity. Meanwhile, CINEMA SCREEN Design elements result in a narrow screen bezel which is practically invisible to the naked eye. A minimal bezel helps to produce a truly immersive 2D and 3D viewing experience. For installation versatility, the new model also ships with an easy-to-mount wall bracket that allows a single person to complete the entire installation. With less than a one-inch gap between wall and TV, LG's design masterpiece can now be displayed like a true work of art.

Additionally, Smart Touch Control further differentiates LG's OLED TV designs from competing models. This new feature results in a more attractive appearance and a better control experience. Located below the screen, the sliding touch key provides the user with an intuitive and elegant way to control the OLED TVs basic functions, such as changing channels and volume, and powering on or off.

LG's OLED TVs combine the company's industry-leading CINEMA 3D technology with Smart TV capabilities, creating the most immersive and comprehensive home entertainment experience possible.

CES2013: Definitive Technology Unveils Bluetooth Tablet Speaker.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesus.

Definitive Technology Unveils Bluetooth Tablet Speaker

New “Sound Cylinder” speaker clips on to most tablets and
features built-in subwoofer for superior sound

Definitive Technology announced today its first Bluetooth speaker system, the “Sound Cylinder,” to bring high performance sound to tablets and other portable Bluetooth enabled devices. Sound Cylinder’s innovative clip system securely attaches the speaker to most tablets and many laptop computers.

The consumer electronics industry will get its first peek at Definitive’s new Sound Cylinder at the company’s exhibit space, booth 4809 in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, at CES 2013, Jan. 8-11 in Las Vegas.

Sound Cylinder doubles as a table stand for an attached tablet. A built-in pivoting “kickstand” securely holds the device at an ideal angle for viewing and listening. It connects wirelessly to Bluetooth enabled devices or via an audio cable to any device with an analog audio output jack. The built-in rechargeable battery provides up to 10 hours of high quality listening.

Befitting Definitive’s reputation as a leading maker of ultra-high performance component home loudspeakers for discriminating listeners, Sound Cylinder’s audio performance is exemplary. It features a built-in side-firing subwoofer in addition to stereo speakers to provide listeners with rich, full-bodied stereo sound wherever they may go. Surround Array image enhancement processing creates a life-like soundstage that extends beyond the compact dimensions of the cylinder.

“Thanks to rapid advances in portable devices such as tablets and smart phones, enjoying music and video content on the go is within the reach of everyone” said Kevin Duffy, Definitive Technology’s President. “Headphones are fine but they’re not always practical, especially when you want to share an audio experience with others. Sound Cylinder answers the need for convenient high quality audio on the move.”

Sound Cylinder is fabricated with premium materials to achieve a level of attractive appearance, precision fit and luxury finish unusual in portable audio products. The grilles are custom perforated aluminum while the “kickstand” and clamp mechanism parts are injection-molded Magnesium alloy, a costly high-tech material that is incredibly strong yet lightweight.

The product design is the result of collaboration between world renowned Frog Design and the DEI Global Design Center, headed by Chief Design Officer Michael DiTullo. Frog Design is an innovation firm with 12 locations around the globe and more than 1,000 designers, strategists, and engineers. The DEI Global Design Center is a multi-disciplinary design studio located in the Vista, CA office of Definitive’s corporate parent, DEI Holdings.

Sound Cylinder will be available in consumer electronics specialty storefront and on-line retailers as well as Definitive’s on-line store in January 2013. The suggested retail price is $199.

CES2013 LG Bolsters Smart TV For 2013.

WorldWide Tech /Science. Francisco De Jesus.

CES2013 LG Bolsters Smart TV For 2013
LG Provides Simple, Intuitive Smart TV User Experience with Enhanced Magic Remote, Expanded Search and Share Capabilities.

Offering a host of new applications and easy access to content, the 2013 Smart TV line from LG Electronics (LG) will include an updated Magic Remote for a simplified, intuitive user experience (UX).

The wide variety of new models and sizes – including LG's awe-inspiring 84-inch Ultra HD and 55-inch OLED TVs – will be highlighted at next week's 2013 International CES®.

"LG strives to provide the most engaging and convenient user experience to consumers all over the globe," said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of the LG Home Entertainment Company. "We have an uncompromising attitude when it comes to both developing and improving the LG Smart TV platform. As a result, we are confident the user experience of our 2013 models will shatter all expectations and demonstrate that LG is one of the leaders of the Smart TV movement."

Easy to Use, Share and Enjoy
LG offers Smart Control with its enhanced Home Dashboard and Magic Remote. The new Home Dashboard interface features My Interest Cards – special folders for apps and other content – providing seamless access to what is trending on news sites. My Interest Cards can be customized according to the needs and preferences of the user.

The Magic Remote has been redesigned to fine-tune content and menu navigation, making interaction simple and intuitive. The device still incorporates the fundamental control capabilities of past versions – point, wheel, gesture and voice recognition. At CES, LG will demonstrate Voice Mate, an enhanced version of the company's voice control technology, capable of recognizing the natural flow of language. The Voice Mate feature offers a new voice search option that simultaneously filters search results across the LG Smart TV platform – Video-on-Demand (VoD) services, websites, external devices and more.

The enhanced SmartShareTM feature offers users the ability to mirror or transfer content from smart devices to LG Smart TVs with various connectivity options, including WiDi and Miracast. The 2013 line-up will enhance sharing between devices by implementing Near Field Communication (NFC), which offers wireless and seamless content mirroring from smartphones and other compatible external devices. This feature immediately connects two devices for quick media sharing. To use "Tag On" as LG calls it, users simply hold a smartphone or other NFC-enabled device against the NFC sticker on LG's CINEMA 3D Smart TV. The 2013 line-up also supports LG Cloud, which allows the user to stream high-quality content remotely.

Smarter Discovery in Sea of Content
Smart TV users have a steadily growing selection of content from which to choose. To allow users to easily find what they want within VoD and live broadcasts from multiple sources, the LG Smart TV offers an advanced recommendation function called On Now; this convenient service suggests trending VoD and broadcast content. Results pop-up with handy thumbnail images, making it faster and easier for viewers to select content.

With a vast array of movie, lifestyle, gaming and 3D viewing options, consumers looking for international or local content can quickly find what they want on their LG Smart TVs. Partnerships with a growing list of providers from around the world, including local broadcast stations and subscription programming services, allow LG to keep its content offerings relevant and fresh.

The Improved User Experience
LG Smart TVs deliver a smooth user experience and excellent picture quality because of a central processing unit (CPU) and graphic processing unit (GPU) that have been upgraded over those of prior generations. CPU speeds are now 120 percent faster in several premium CINEMA 3D Smart TV models. Even more impressive, GPU speeds are now 300 percent faster, which translates into clearer images that enhance gaming, viewing and multitasking capabilities.

LG's Smart TVs include CINEMA 3D technology, which employs Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) technology for superior 3D viewing comfort. This technology uses lightweight glasses to create a comfortable 3D viewing experience without the distracting flicker or crosstalk of active shutter-style glasses.

The new 2013 models embody LG's minimalist CINEMA SCREEN Design. The bezels have been significantly reduced to provide a greater sense of immersion and streamlined style. The Magic Stand further enhances the effect, enabling the screen to appear as if it were floating. Both elegant and functional, the stand complements the screen without creating any visual distraction. This sleek formation effortlessly blends into any modern interior design scheme. The stand also features a convenient swivel and roller function, allowing the TV to be repositioned with ease.

LG's CINEMA 3D Smart TV has won many CES Innovations Awards for its superiority in hardware and software, the latest being the 2013 Innovations Awards. The CINEMA 3D Smart TV line-up received another award in December when the 55LA6900 model earned an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) from Underwriters Laboratories Inc. This model was recognized for its remarkable energy efficiency and eco-friendly qualities.

LG Unveils New 'HOM-BOT Square' Vacuum
LG's Smarter, Faster, Newly Designed Robotic Vacuum with Corner Master and Dual Eye 2.0™ Cameras Makes Cleaning Effortless

Complementing its other new Smart Appliances for 2013, LG Electronics (LG) announced its totally redesigned robotic vacuum, the LG HOM-BOT Square, with improved cleaning technologies and smart capabilities for easy cleaning on virtually any surface.

At next week's International CES® in Las Vegas, LG will demonstrate how its HOM-BOT Square offers a significant upgrade in cleaning performance, thanks primarily to LG's newly designed Corner Master technology. This advanced feature set includes improved sensors and longer brushes, enabling it to tackle hard-to-reach places.

Ultrasonic and infrared sensors detect obstacles, while the vacuum's Dual Eye 2.0™ cameras scan and map rooms, even when the lights are turned off. The Turbo Mode settings let users manually adjust the cleaner to best match the characteristics of their flooring while Smart Turbo Mode automatically changes its own settings based on the type of flooring.

"From the beginning, we jumped into this project with the realization that consumers' rooms aren't round, they're rectangular," said Seong-jin Jo, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. "In practically every house around the world, rooms have right-angle corners, so it made perfect sense to develop a vacuum that took this into account. The HOM-BOT Square makes cleaning the hard-to-reach places effortless."

While robotic vacuum cleaners typically have only one camera, LG's advanced HOM-BOT Square uses two improved Dual Eye 2.0 cameras to plot out a smarter, faster and more efficient cleaning route. Taking several images per second, the upper and lower cameras scan ceilings, walls and floors, even under dim lighting conditions. This information is then analyzed to generate smarter mapping. At the same time, multiple sensors detect obstacles within a 180-degree field, taking hundreds of surface images to help provide collision-free operation.

The HOM-BOT Square also features a Learning Function, which enables it to recognize areas it has previously cleaned, minimizing unnecessary repetition, as well as allowing the vacuum to remember the positioning of objects from one cleaning to the next.

In addition to new Corner Master technology, LG's HOM-BOT Square cleans effectively with corner Detecting Sensors and the vacuum's unique rectangular shape. The Corner Detecting Sensors enable the unit to pinpoint its exact location in the home, which help indicate when to turn or if it has reached the edge of a room.

Low noise levels of just 60 decibels mean LG's robotic vacuum can effortlessly clean without disturbing the users. With a height of just 89 millimeters, the unit's slim profile enables it to maneuver under most furniture with ease.

The LG HOM-BOT Square makes cleaning more convenient because it requires less frequent emptying thanks to its larger capacity Easy-out Dust Bin. Unlike other robotic vacuum cleaners where the dust bin is located on the side, the Easy-out Dust Bin is positioned at the top of the cleaner for quick and easy removal. The larger and upgraded HEPA 11 filter also enables it to separate dust particles from the air more thoroughly, while also helping eliminate unpleasant odors.

Users may also enjoy a host of convenient features such as Voice Guidance, which includes over 90 voice alerts and updates on its cleaning progress. The vacuum also includes SmartDiagnosis™ technology, enabling the HOM-BOT to help self diagnose malfunctions or problems and then inform users with a voice alert*. Additionally, the improved Lithium Ion battery has a longer life cycle than conventional batteries and has up to 100 minutes of running time, so that owners can enjoy extended periods of automated cleaning and save on battery replacement costs.

LG's HOM-BOT Square vacuum's incredible maneuverability will be showcased at LG's CES booth (#8204) during a choreographed routine at select times throughout the show.
* Wireless Internet connection required and sold separately.

LG emphasized improved sound quality with its Home Theater Systems this year, which is best exemplified by the BH9430PW, a high-quality surround sound speaker system designed to take the movie viewing experience to the next level.  Additionally, the 9.1-channel system creates four additional channels in addition to the typical 5.1 setup, delivering an even more immersive audio experience. A chorus of stunning sound is produced by the front tallboy and rear satellite speakers, helping to fill the entire room with a soundscape that rivals that of an actual cinema. The system's 3D Surround Processor analyzes content to distribute sound in multiple directions while maintaining an appropriate balance.

A new convenience feature added to the 2013 lineup is called Private Sound Mode, which lets consumers feed the system's sound directly to their smartphone via Wi-Fi (sold separately) where they can listen with any regular earbuds. Finally, the BH9430PW is compatible with iPhones® and iPads® to charge the devices and provide access to stored content.

Also serving as a smart hub, the BH9430PW supports Near Field Communication (NFC), which offers wireless and seamless content mirroring from smartphones and other compatible external devices.
