Samsung Announces Mass Production of Industry’s First 14nm FinFET Mobile Application Processor.

“Samsung’s advanced 14nm FinFET process technology is undoubtedly the most advanced logic process technology in the industry,” said Gabsoo Han, Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, System LSI Business, Samsung Electronics. “We expect the production of our 14nm mobile application processor to positively impact the growth of the mobile industry by enabling further performance improvements for cutting-edge smartphones.”

As the most advanced technology available today, 14nm FinFET process is able to achieve the highest levels of efficiency, performance and productivity. When compared to Samsung’s 20nm process technology, this newest process enables up to 20 percent faster speed, 35 percent less power consumption and 30 percent productivity gain.

By successfully incorporating three-dimensional (3D) FinFET structure on transistors, Samsung has overcome performance and scaling limitations of the planar structure used in previous 20nm and older processes and gained a significant competitive edge in advanced semiconductors for the mobile industry.

This ground-breaking accomplishment is a result of Samsung’s unparalleled R&D efforts in FinFET technology since the early 2000s. Starting with a research article presented at IEDM (International Electron Devices Meeting) in 2003, Samsung has continuously made progress and announced its technological achievements in FinFET research and has also filed a pool of key patents in the field.

As for memory, Samsung has been successfully mass producing its proprietary 3D V-NAND products since 2013. Together with its 3D transistor based FinFET process technology, Samsung has strengthened its leadership in 3D semiconductors in both memory and logic semiconductors that addresses the current scaling limitations with planar designs.

Samsung’s leading-edge14nm FinFET process will be adopted by its Exynos 7 Octa, then expanded to other products throughout the year.

Samsung announced today two new chipsets: the Exynos 5 Hexa and the Exynos ModAP.

Samsung announced today two new chipsets: the Exynos 5 Hexa and the Exynos ModAP.

The Exynos 5 Hexa, the world’s first ARM based six core mobile processor, which consists of two powerful big cores and four power efficient LITTLE cores. Using big.LITTLE architecture and Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) solution, they are able to run various combinations of cores in order to produce the finest performance with incredible power efficiency.

The Exynos ModAP is a quad core and is the first generation of integrated LTE Modem-AP solution with advanced 4G LTE connectivity, built on 28nm HKMG Process. It supports various mobile network standards including LTE, so that you can enjoy a better connection wherever you are in the world, especially when using multimedia mobile features such as web browsing and making voice calls without any interruption.

Furthermore, it makes life simple by offering faster multitasking, so when switching between applications or surfing the web, it’s as seamless as it can be. With its advanced Image Signal processing, any Exynos ModAP-powered devices with high resolution cameras can enjoy full capabilities like video recording in higher quality or playing back graphics in higher quality or format with no lag or buffering.

Press Release:

Samsung Exynos continues to deliver rich technology for a simple life

Over the years, we have made improvements to the Exynos series, which means our processors are now in demand more than ever.

The introduction of the Exynos 3 Single processor in 2009 offered faster internet browsing and enabled faster application loading with its 1GHz single core CPU - in 2010, we introduced multi core processors, for a richer computing experience. This advancement was followed by the release of new powerful processors such as the Exynos 4 Dual series and Exynos 4 Quad processor. But the innovation didn’t stop there; in 2011 we unveiled theExynos 5 Dual with the world’s first Cortex-A15 dual core processor, with 12.8GB/s wider memory bandwidth to support WQXGA display.

Fast forwarding to 2013, and we released our Exynos 5 Octa processor series for the first time in the industry; our Octa-core mobile processors consist of four big cores and four little cores, providing the highest level of processing power in the world.

And this year, we released the Exynos 5 Hexa, the world’s first ARM based six core mobile processor, which consists of two powerful big cores and four power efficient LITTLE cores. Using big.LITTLE architecture and Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) solution, they are able to run various combinations of cores in order to produce the finest performance with incredible power efficiency.

Exynos 5 Octa-powered mobile devices such as the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S, and Samsung Chromebook 2 are now giving users life-enriching experiences.

By continuing with our innovative ways of going against the status quo, Exynos continues to evolve, thereby delivering richer technology for a simple life. And now, we are proud to announce that we are now taking our innovations further by extending our portfolio, in order to make Exynos powered devices a better life companion for all its users.

MWC 2014: Samsung teases the Exynos Infinity processor. A 64 bits Octacore for the Galaxy S5 ?

Samsung is teasing on Twitter the Exynos Infinity processor to unveil at the MWC 2014 in Barcelona.

Our speculation, will it be the 64 bits Octacore version for the Galaxy S5 launch in the UNPACKED 5 event to take place Monday Feb 24th in Barcelona ?

Some are speculating that this could be Samsung’s of rumored 64-bit quad-core mobile processor, the very same one that seems to have made an appearance in a Linux kernel patch. Dubbed the “Samsung GH7,” the SoC is reportedly based on ARMv8-A 64-bit architecture.

However thinking a little deep on the word Infinity, would it means the processor will work beyond our above speculation?

Will see in 5 days?
