Sony’s return to greatness might just be around the corner with the YUGA phatablet.

Sony  is preparing to announce a 5-inch Android-powered smartphone to compete with Samsung’s  successful Galaxy Note lineup. 

Sony’s 5-inch phablet code-named “Yuga” has been extensively handled and benchmarked before the company even acknowledges its existence. 

According to the Russian site Mobile-Review, specs for the Yuga include a display with a 1920 x 1080 pixel-resolution and a pixel density of 440 pixels per inch, a quad-core processor, a 12-megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM, 4G LTE and a plethora of ports including a microSD card slot, Micro HDMI, Micro USB.  

The prototype phone was tested running Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

In terms of design and size Mobile-Review says the device is on par with the Galaxy Note II, meaning it’s not as pocketable as the DROID DNA, but its plastic construction does give it the illusion that it’s made of two panes of glass on the front and back.

Mobile-Review says  the Yuga keeps up with the latest flagship smartphones when it comes to having tons of apps open and running games.

The website also says the Yuga “can run for most of the daylight hours,”

USA: Verizon to launch the LG Intuition LTE phatablet in September 10.

Verizon Wireless will launch the LTE-powered LG Intuition "phablet. The Intuition, which will go on sale Sept. 10 for $199.99 with new two-year contract, is an LTE version of the Optimus Vu phablet LG unveiled at Mobile World Congress in February. The gadget runs on Android 4.0 and sports a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processors, 1 GB of RAM, a 5-inch screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio, 8-megapixel camera and 1.3-mepaixel front-facing camera and mobile hostpot capability.

LG's gadget is also aimed at business users, and features the Polaris Office app, which allows users to view, create, edit and share documents, spreadsheets and presentations, as well as the QuickMemo app, which allows customers to draw or write messages with an  included Rubberdium pen or with their finger

For LG, the support of Verizon, the nation's largest wireless carrier, for one of its premier devices, is a major win. LG is getting Verizon's support before the arrival of Samsung's Galaxy Note II, which is expected to be sold by U.S. carriers later this year.

 So far the original Galaxy Note, which is being sold by AT&T and T-Mobile USA, has been the most visible and successful phablet.
