The Leaf Nissan Wins World Car of the Year 2011



Two alternative vehicles, Nissan and the Chevrolet Volt Leaf, two electric cars, made today with the World Car awards Year 2011 and World Green Car of the Year 2011, respectively.

In addition, the Ferrari 458 Italy won the World Sports Car Award of the Year, while the Aston Martin Rapide received the award for Best World Car Design of the Year.

The winners were announced during the second day of the International Auto Show in New York.

The Leaf Nissan, whose sales began in December in the United States, won the World Car of the Year after beating the final leg of the competition, which began with 38 vehicles, the Audi A8 and the BMW 5 Series.

Nissan President Carlos Ghosn said in a statement that "it is with great pleasure that the first electric vehicle intended for the general market, Nissan Leaf, won the prestigious award."

"This award recognizes that the Nissan Leaf, a pioneer in zero-emission mobility, is so similar in their driving performance, low noise and superb handling cars with gasoline engines," said Ghosn.

The jury composed of journalists from around the world, said: "The Leaf is the door to a brave new world power" and that the good news is that "feels like a normal car, only quieter ".

Previous winners of the World Car of the Year award is the 2010 Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen Golf 2009, Mazda2 2008, 2007 Lexus LS460, BMW 3 Series 2006 Audi A6 2005.

For its part, the Chevrolet Volt, other electric vehicle that also has a small gasoline engine to generate electricity when their batteries run down, beat in the final stretch of the award of World Green Car of the Year and the BMW 320d EfficientDynamics own Nissan Leaf .

The Ferrari 458 Italy won the Mercedes-Benz AMG and SLS Turbo Porsche 911.
