Visa to unveil m-commerce strategy .

WorldWide tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Payments giant Visa plans to unveil a “significant” mobile commerce strategy this month, possibly as early as next week. Dow Jones Newswires reports that chief executive Joseph Saunders made the remark on a second-quarter results call with analysts yesterday.

Visa’s decision to ramp up its efforts in the mobile space will be a major development for the nascent but high-profile m-commerce sector.

Tier one handset and software vendors such as Samsung, Nokia, Apple and Google’s Android are all focusing on NFC technology, while operators also want to ensure they don’t miss out on the action.

A US joint venture called Isis (involving AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon) hit the headlines this week following reports that its efforts to create a mobile payments network of its own (competing with the likes of Visa and MasterCard) are being scaled down to focus on development of a mobile wallet (in partnership with credit card companies).
