Batman dinosaur discovered in China.

Artist's impression of the new dinosaur named "Qiyi", which means fantastic wing in English.

Chinese scientists have discovered a "batman dinosaur" – a small dinosaur that lived 160 million years ago and had featherless wings like bats.
The research, conducted by scientists from the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology in Beijing as well as Linyi University in Shandong province, was published by Nature magazine on Friday.
Scientists restructured the image of the small dinosaur named "Qiyi", which means fantastic wing in English, after scanning a specimen with CT devices and electron microscopy.

Qiyi has a unique look with stubby head, long fingers and threadlike feather, which is quite different from the feather of any existing bird.

The most eye-catching feature of Qiyi is a rod-like bone, a wrist commonly found with flying tetrapods like bats, but had never been found on dinosaur fossils.
"We spent quite some time to identify the body structure of Qiyi, because the specimen is so different. At first we did not have the slightest idea about what was the rod-like bone," said Xu Xing, an author of the thesis.
A researcher in Xu's team found descriptions on the rod-like bone when he was carrying out another research on flying vertebrates. He informed Xu about his finding immediately.
Analysis on Qiyi's flying ability shows it was capable of flying short distance between trees, or flying from tree tops to the ground.
"Living in the mid period of Jurassic, the dinosaur Qiyi could be a pioneer in the evolution of flying ability," said Zheng Xiaoting, a co-author of the thesis.
"Qiyi proves that the prehistoric life had various attempts in developing flying ability, many went into the dead ends, though the flying mode of existing birds seems to be the only one survived to date."
The origin of birds has been a fruitful research field in China. The top 10 breakthroughs 2014 published by Science magazine listed China's contribution in this field side by side with the first man-made probe landing on a comet.

China: Robots go it alone at factory with no assembly workers.

More than 100 industrial robots have been installed at a zero-labor factory that is being built in Dongguan, a major manufacturing base in Guangdong province.
The construction of the factory, the first of its kind in the province, marks an important step for the "robot assembly line" strategy that is being followed by the province as it tackles a severe labor shortage.
Chen Qixing, chairman of the board of Guangdong Everwin Precision Technology, said 1,000 robots will be used in the first phase of the production facility.
"The use of industrial robots will help the company to reduce the number of front-line workers by at least 90 percent," Chen said.
"When all the 1,000 industrial robots are put into operation in the coming months, we will only need to recruit fewer than 200 software technicians and management personnel."
Without the robots, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange-listed company would have to employ more than 2,000 workers, he added.
Ren Xiangsheng, the executive deputy general manager, said the robots will help the company to maintain production stability and product quality.
Zou Yanbiao, an associate professor of robotics at South China University of Technology, said: "Using robots can help manufacturing companies to upgrade their production processes, reduce manufacturing costs and ensure the quality of their products.
"The use of industrial robots may become of greater significance in the future, as Guangdong's manufacturing industry seeks to adjust to labor shortages."
According to Guangdong's Department of Human Resources and Social Security, the province is facing a shortage of 600,000 to 800,000 workers. Dongguan alone has a labor gap of more than 100,000.
Economists have suggested that the Pearl River Delta, in particular the major cities of Guangzhou, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Foshan and Dongguan, should further upgrade their technology and make much greater use of intelligent robots.
The authorities in Guangdong have said they will invest 943 billion yuan ($152 billion) to replace people with robots over the next three years.
The local government will push for the use of robots by 1,950 companies across the province, and it plans to build two advanced robot production plants by the end of 2017.
More than 80 percent of manufacturing operations in Guangzhou, the province's capital, will be using industrial robots and related "intelligent" technologies by 2020, according to official projections.

LTE Hong Kong: HKT and Huawei Demonstrate LTE-A 450Mbps Solution.

HKT and Huawei have successfully demonstrated an IP-RAN based LTE-A 450Mbps solution (3 FDD Carrier Aggregation) in Hong Kong. Last week, HKT and Huawei achieved a peak download rate of 440 Mbps in a live test of three component carrier (3CC) inter-site LTE-A carrier aggregation (CA) across three 20MHz spectrum blocks using an IP Radio Access Network (IP-RAN) based solution.
HKT is rolling out its LTE-A 450Mbps network using this IP-RAN based solution, and expects the network to be commercialized with compatible smartphones by 2016. This will bring a dramatically improved Internet experience to Hong Kong mobile users, enabling faster downloads, enhanced audio and video streaming, and more reliable video conferencing.
CA technology allows the combined use of fragmented spectrum resources to increase data throughput where implementations today require that the fragmented spectrum resources be hosted by the same cell site. However, many commercial CA networks today have coverage holes due to coverage differences between LTE cell sites using different spectrums, thus imposing difficulty of combining LTE carriers on different spectrums for CA realization, which in turn disrupts the user experience. To solve this problem, Huawei is offering inter-site CA solution which is able to combine carriers from more than one cell site to maximize the CA coverage area.
By the end of 2014, there were 49 LTE-A commercial networks globally. More than 100 LTE-A commercial networks are expected to be in use by the end of 2015.

Ericsson cloud video enabler wins NAB best of show award.

Ericsson  made an announcement that 2015 NewBay Media Best of Show Award which was held in Las Vegas, 11-16 April recognizes the ‘Ericsson Video Storage and Processing Platform’ as a disruptive cloud-based enabler for time-shifted TV services.
Vice President and Head of Solution Area Media of Ericsson, quoted that TV Consumers are already demanding access-anywhere services and infinite content choice, and will soon become frustrated with the fragmenting industry approach to delivering on-demand services. As a result, TV service providers are under increasing pressure to quickly and efficiently deploy complex time and place shifted TV services.
And thus Ericsson’s Video Storage and Processing Platform establishes the current industry benchmarks for performance, flexibility, and scale. Specifically optimized for media and suitable for time-shifted services such as cloud-based DVR, it has scale-out capabilities which have been proven to support over 150 petabytes of video storage across demanding customer sites worldwide.
According to Ericsson VP and Head of Solution Area Media, this award is testament to their market leading position in the media space. He said that their unique, flexible and disruptive approach to reducing costs and simplifying processes has made possible for their customers to delight consumers in their TV experiences, and to deliver business results through increased loyalty, new subscribers and revenues.
Ericsson’s Media Vision 2020 research predicts that by the year 2020, time spent watching on-demand and time-shifted content will have reached 50:50 parity with linear and live TV. TV service providers therefore must ensure that they can address accelerating consumer demand through scalable and resilient infrastructures, while still being able to deliver unparalleled performance that sustains high recording and playout concurrency, especially in all-new adaptive bitrate delivery architectures.
The Video Storage and Processing Platform powers Ericsson’s Cloud DVR solution, which was recently launched at NAB Show 2015 following Ericsson’s acquisition of Fabrix Systems. It offers a unique and tested infrastructure, which ensures that existing television services can be seamlessly enhanced or replaced with advanced private cloud-based services. This all-software platform leverages and transforms the video-specific performance of large arrays of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) servers.

The World`s lightest laptop is the Lenovo's 13-inch LaVie Z lighter than the MacBook

Lenovo says the 13 inch LaVie Z laptop weights 1.87 pounds and it is so light because of its magnesium-lithium alloy body. The new MacBook weights 2.03 pounds.

LaVie Z has two USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI out port,  SD Card reader, a 2.40 GHz 5th Gen Intel Core i7 processor. The new MacBook has a Intel Core M.
