Is HP`s Todd Bradley hinting webOS tablets on the HP`s tablets roadmap?

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

Is HP`s Todd Bradley hinting  webOS tablets on the HP`s tablets roadmap?

In a recent  Q&A  session made at the HP Global Influencer Summit 2012, held over two days in Shanghai last week, the first question asked of Mr Todd Bradley, head of HP's newly merged Personal and Printing Systems (PPS) Group, was about tablets, he dropped hints that there may be more to its tablet strategy that the world has yet to see.

"That's not to say that (our stated strategy) is forever. I think it's clear that the market's evolved, the market's changed," he said. "I think when we announce the roadmap for tablets you'll see a very compelling solution set that the tablet becomes part of."

HP's senior vice-president for the Asia-Pacific region for the PPS group, Mr Dion Wiesler  echoed Todd Bradley saying:

"I think what we've learned about tablet devices are that they benefit from three key things. Always on, always connected, thin and light, long battery life,"

Sounds like a webos tablet on HP`s roadmap . After all we take HP`s CEO Meg Whitman word :
HP wanted to clarify that Whitman said HP could make WebOS-powered tablets in 2013.
While we know that HP is ceasing development of WebOS in phones, it’s interesting that the company is continuing to bet on the OS in tablets, said techcrunch.
With respect to whether HP can be a consumer and an enterprise company, Whitman believes that the company can continue to do both and says that the company’s current strength is that it is able to be successful in both product areas. “If you ask any guy on the street about what HP is known for, it would be computers,” she says, in an interview made  by techcrunch

In April 5,2012 we wrote about this related news:

India: HP we continue to study the tablet market. A new webOS tablet ?

The probability of a new webOS tablet  for early 2013 is high. The Stingray,OPal, or Topaz or.........webOS tablet perhaps?

Note: The code names Stingray, Opal and Topaz were before found  for webOS devices in 2011 and we are just guessing these names here.

HP plannnig NFC payments on webOS tablets and smartphones ?

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) is developing mobile devices that will help consumers make purchases wirelessly, two people familiar with the company’s plans said.

Although is not given a specific OS platform that HP might build in the NFC payment application, for tablets a sure thing is on webOS and for smartphones as well. However  we  will take an eye on the windows OS platform that HP launched as slate 500 and others that might come.

The company is considering introducing phones and tablets based on near field communication technology, which lets users pay for items and receive coupons and loyalty points by tapping the gadgets on posters and grocery store cash registers, said one of the people, who requested anonymity because the plans haven’t been made public. The first NFC devices may be available by year-end, the person said.

“Other folks are going to build this capability into devices, so, competitively, HP needs to do that,” said Ed Finkler, an independent programmer who has created an application for devices that run Palm’s WebOS operating system.

Third-party developers will be able to build apps and services using the capability, one of the people said.

Leslie Letts, a spokeswoman for Palo Alto, California-based Hewlett-Packard, declined to comment.

NFC is emerging as a must-have feature for mobile devices. Google and ISIS, a joint venture among wireless carriers AT&T Inc., Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile USA Inc., will soon begin testing NFC-based payment and coupon services in select cities. Global NFC-based transactions will reach almost $50 billion by 2014, according to consulting firm Juniper Research.

Rival handset maker Samsung Electronics Co. debuted its Nexus S phone, featuring NFC capabilities, in December. T-Mobile USA began selling Nokia Astound with NFC capabilities in March. Research In Motion Ltd. has said future versions of the BlackBerry will offer built-in NFC support. Users will be able to pair the BlackBerry Bold to an accessory or read information such as a Web link from smart tags by simply tapping the phone to an NFC tag in a poster.

Business customers as well as consumers may flock to NFC technology. Train and bus conductors can use it to check riders' tickets. Warehouse staff can use NFC-enabled devices for inventory tracking, and cashiers can use NFC-enabled tablets to accept payments in retail stores.

"Business could use this capability internally for many purposes," Charlie Bess, a Hewlett-Packard Fellow, wrote in a blog in January. "This can be attached to just about anything and read from nearby."

“The first HP TouchPad units off the line will be "fully PartnerOne eligible and aligned." What's more, he said, PartnerOne benefits around training and deal registration will also be available to partners when the product is launched in June” HP Discovery 2011 June 6-10 :Matt Smith, director of Americas Channel Marketing for HP.

Rick Chernick, CEO of Camera Corner Connecting Point, a Green Bay Wisc. HP partner who has seen the new WebOS HP offering and phones, said he was excited about the HP mobility opportunity.

"I've seen the product," he said. "It's gorgeous. I think it is going to sell like crazy."

HP is putting its money where its mouth is when it comes to its new WebOS based tablet computing strategy.

Stephen DiFranco, vice president and general manager, Solution Partners Organization – Americas, on Monday kicked off the company's Americas Partner Conference by announcing that the company is putting its PartnerOne channel program muscle fully behind its WebOS-based offering.

With a call to action for partners to build business mobility practices around WebOS, DiFranco promised partners that the $126 billion computer giant will have robust PartnerOne program benefits to incent partners to get into the mobility game with HP.

Beginning this summer, DiFranco said, HP partners will be able to sell WebOS solutions and tap into new HP PartnerONE program benefits including market development funds, volume programs, big deal registration and practice development for partners selling WebOS products, such as the HP TouchPad.

What's more, he said, in November, HP plans to introduce an Elite mobility program offering that will provide more substantial benefits for partners that meet higher level HP mobility partner requirements.

"We are going to help our partners develop mobility practices that include services like app development, mobility virtualization and mobility management," said DiFranco. HP is holding a mobility event on Wednesday at the partner conference aimed at getting its partners to build mobility practices.

8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
General Session with executive vice presidents Todd Bradley (PSG) and Vyomesh Joshi (IPG)
1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Invitation only Mobility Executive Summit

DiFranco said HP is uniquely positioned to help partners succeed in the commercial based tablet and connective devices market. "Companies are going to want to have specific apps for their businesses," he said.

"Partners are going to be very very important here helping customers find mobility apps that are core to their business."

Matt Smith, director of Americas Channel Marketing for HP, said that the first HP TouchPad units off the line will be "fully PartnerOne eligible and aligned." What's more, he said, PartnerOne benefits around training and deal registration will also be available to partners when the product is launched in June.

Smith also promised that partners will have "price parity" with retail outlets carrying the products under an HP MAP (Manufacturer Advertised Price) initiative. In fact, he said, HP was more concerned about commercial partners possibly undercutting retail pricing. "Partners should be able to get good margins," he said.
