LTE: Huawei announced New MSA technology to improve performance in almost 30% for LTE Advanced.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

LTE: Huawei announced New MSA technology to improve performance in almost 30% for  LTE Advanced.

Huawei has announced a new proposal for the LTE-Advanced Multi-Stream Aggregation (MSA) technology standard for increase in data rates at the cell's edge. According to the company, a key component of Huawei's "No-Edge Networks" concept, MSA technology coordinates macro cells to improve user data rates at the cell's edge and also between heterogeneous networking scenarios to improve peak rates and simplify mobile management to ensure a consistent user experience.
The concept behind Huawei's MSA technology is that the user is always able to receive downlink data and aggregate downlink data streams from a cell or cell group with the best signal quality. A similar method applies to uplink data, where the user always transmits uplink data to a cell or cell group with the best signal quality. The uplink data streams are aggregated on the network side.
Company further outlines that MSA technology is especially suitable for macro-micro HetNets and reduces the number of handovers. It's expects MSA technology to improve system performance at the cell's edge by almost 30%.

LTE:Advanced specs near completion

WorldWideTech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Further progress was made this week on development of LTE-Advanced technology. A meeting organised by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) in Taipei, Taiwan, reportedly saw major handset manufacturers such as HTC, Nokia and Samsung agree on technical details of the standard to submit next month for final approval.

IDG News claims that manufacturers also discussed “cross-licensing the technology.” LTE-Advanced specs are scheduled to be completed (‘frozen’) at a 3GPP plenary meeting in Kansas City next month (due to close 23 March) and form part of the 3GPP’s Release 10 specs.

A Light Reading Mobile report earlier this week noted that the March 2011 freeze date for LTE-Advanced is significant because “this deadline was set by the ITU as a requirement for inclusion in the IMT-Advanced family of standards, which some consider to be the real 4G.”

Last October the ITU announced it had chosen LTE-Advanced and WirelessMAN-Advanced (sometimes known as WiMAX 802.16m/Release 2) as its official technologies for the 4G standard IMT-Advanced.
LTE-Advanced is the next-generation version of LTE (which itself is only just starting to be commercially deployed) from the 3GPP camp, and takes the official technology name of LTE Release 10 & Beyond.

The key characteristics of the ITU’s IMT-Advanced standard are believed to be downlink speeds of 100Mb/s in the wide area with high mobility and 1Gb/s in low-mobility scenarios; low latency at less than 10 millisecond roundtrip delay; and very wide spectrum bandwidths of up to 100MHz.

Commercial deployment of LTE-Advanced networks is some way off though; Light Reading Mobile notes that final specs may not even be completed until September. That suggestion, coupled with the fact that commercial equipment doesn’t usually appear until at least two years after 3GPP release specs have been frozen, suggests LTE-Advanced networks won’t see activation until at least end-2013.

ITU the UN agency for information and communications technologies formally ratifies LTE-Advanced as 4G technology

WorldWideTech. Francisco De Jesús.

ITU is the UN agency for information and communications technologies  formally ratifies LTE-Advanced as 4G
technology in a move that could pave the way for fast mobile broadband.

But
According to the 4G Americas site,  “technologies should be verified against a set of agreed-upon requirements in order to qualify as ‘4G,’ and this will happen in the future when the requirements are outlined by the ITU. Only then will it be understood what is, and can be rightly and credibly called, 4G.”

ITU paves way for next-generation 4G mobile technologies
ITU-R IMT-Advanced 4G standards to usher new era of mobile broadband communications

ITU’s Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R) has completed the assessment of six candidate submissions for the global 4G mobile wireless broadband technology, otherwise known as IMT-Advanced. Harmonization among these proposals has resulted in two technologies, “LTE-Advanced1” and “WirelessMAN-Advanced2” being accorded the official designation of IMT-Advanced, qualifying them as true 4G technologies.

In its recent meeting in Chongqing, China, ITU-R Working Party 5D, which is charged with defining the IMT-Advanced global 4G technologies, reached a milestone in its work by deciding on these technologies for the first release of IMT-Advanced. In the ITU-R Report, which will be published shortly, the LTE-Advanced andWirelessMAN-Advanced technologies were each determined to have successfully met all of the criteria established by ITU-R for the first release of IMT-Advanced.

The Report is expected to be approved by ITU Member States at the ITU-R Study Group 5 meeting in Geneva in late November 2010.

ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun Touré said, “ICTs and broadband networks have become vital national infrastructure — similar to transport, energy and water networks — but with an impact that promises to be even more powerful and far-reaching. These key enhancements in wireless broadband can drive social and economic development, and accelerate progress towards achieving the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals, or MDGs.”

“While the goals set for IMT-Advanced were considered by some to be very high, I am very pleased to see that all stakeholders in the mobile wireless industry have risen to meet the challenge,” said Valery Timofeev, Director of the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau, in expressing his appreciation for this worldwide effort. “I look forward to the ITU-R Recommendation for IMT-Advanced that will have a profound effect on the development of state-of-the-art technologies for 4G mobile broadband.”

Following the success of the ITU-defined IMT-2000 (3G) systems, ITU-R launched the IMT-Advanced (4G) initiative with its strategic IMT future vision in 2002. It subsequently established the services, spectrum and performance requirements for IMT-Advanced as well as a detailed evaluation process. In an on-going partnership with the industry, the six proposals received by ITU in October 2009 were individually subjected to a rigorous assessment, supported by the work of independent external evaluation groups that had been established around the world. Industry consensus and harmonization fostered by ITU-R among these six proposals have resulted in the consolidation of the proposals into the two agreed IMT-Advanced technologies.

These technologies will now move into the final stage of the IMT-Advanced process, which provides for the development in early 2012 of an ITU-R Recommendation specifying the in-depth technical standards for these radio technologies.

IMT-Advanced (4G) provides a global platform on which to build the next-generations of interactive mobile services that will provide faster data access, enhanced roaming capabilities, unified messaging and broadband multimedia.

Stephen Blust, Director of Radio Standards, AT&T, and Chairman of the ITU-R Working Party 5D, also expressed his thanks to all the contributors in industry, government and ITU who have made the IMT-Advanced process successful.
The close partnership between ITU-R members and the global wireless industry in the work on IMT-Advanced clearly establishes these technologies as the pre-eminent ITU-sanctioned 4G mobile wireless broadband solution for information, communications and entertainment.

A layman’s perspective of the IMT-Advanced process and plan can be found here:
