Verizon Wireless Selects SkyCross Antennas to
Enable LTE Devices Showcased at 2011 CES
SkyCross Technology Optimizes High-Speed Wireless Connectivity, Supports Up to 10 Frequency Bands

From the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), SkyCross, a global designer and manufacturer of antenna solutions, announced that its versatile, high-performance antenna technologies are enabling wireless connectivity for multiple devices operating on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network.

SkyCross antennas are incorporated in the following devices being demonstrated in the Verizon Wireless booth at CES: tablet computers from Acer and Cisco®, a home automation control point from Ionics EMS, Inc., and additional products fostered through the Verizon Wireless LTE Innovation Center.

Antennas are a significant part of LTE devices since multifunction, multiband devices require multiple antennas for full broadband connectivity. Over the past 10 years, SkyCross has built a commercial knowledge base and an extensive portfolio of patented antenna designs and techniques for the mobile device, notebook, access point and consumer device markets.

SkyCross Isolated Mode Antenna Technology (iMAT®) is a unique, patented technology for ultra-fast broadband networks that enables a single device antenna to deliver the performance benefits of multiple antennas without creating interference issues. This technology can enable device throughputs of up to the theoretical maximum of the LTE standard. iMAT also supports up to 10 operating frequencies, including those for 3G, 2G and Wi-Fi broadband connectivity – all within one device. This approach enables manufacturers to develop the sleek, thin, compact devices that consumers demand.

SkyCross designed an LTE MIMO antenna for the Acer tablet computer, an iMAT LTE antenna for the Cisco Cius tablet computer, an iMAT antenna for the Ionics EMS, Inc. LTE home automation control point and is developing additional antennas for products manufactured by companies participating in the Verizon Wireless LTE Innovation Center.

"We are delighted and honored that Verizon Wireless recognized SkyCross leadership in LTE antenna design and invited us to help enable devices on its LTE network," said Ben Naskar, chief executive officer and chairman of SkyCross. "We know of no other radio-frequency solutions provider with the commercial technologies available to provide this service."

The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network, launched in December 2010, is the fastest, most advanced 4G network in the United States, providing speeds up to 10 times faster than Verizon Wireless' 3G network. Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network currently reaches one-third of all Americans, with plans to expand the network to the company's entire 3G coverage area over the next three years.

The SkyCross-Verizon Wireless collaboration was fostered at the Verizon Wireless LTE Innovation Center.

 The LTE Innovation Center, established in 2008, provides an environment for diverse companies to work together to develop innovative products that leverage 4G LTE technology.

SkyCross antenna technologies will be in products highlighted from Jan. 6-9 in Verizon Wireless' booth (#35216 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center) at CES. For more information about the LTE Innovation Center and Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network, visit www.verizonwireless.com/lte.

CES 2011: Samsung AMOLED Mobile Display Unveils Next-generation Displays at CES

WorldWidetech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Samsung Mobile Display (SMD) will be demonstrating leading-edge, next generation AMOLED displays at Pepcom’s The Digital Experience! press event during the Consumer Electronics Show, at the Caesars Palace Hotel on Wednesday, January 5th from 7 to 10pm.

1. A 4.5-inch WVGA Flexible AMOLED offering world’s highest flexible display resolution
SMD is presenting a prototype of the most advanced flexible AMOLED display. Only 2mm thick, the 4.5 inch flexible AMOLED runs at a WVGA 800 x 480 resolution and can be rolled down to a one centimeter radius.

At WVGA, this new concept prototype offers a display resolution four times that of the previous most flexible AMOLED prototype in the industry, thanks to the use of a new plastic substrate that can withstand the 450-500 degree temperatures required in the manufacturing process.

Typically, flexible displays use plastic substrates instead of glass substrates because this helps the display become lighter and thinner. Furthermore, the new plastic substrates are not prone to breakage during manufacturing. Previously, plastic materials melted at temperatures over 400 degrees during the manufacturing process, making commercialization difficult.

Development of the 4.5 inch Flexible AMOLED prototype, designed for smart phone and tablet PC displays, is a major step on the road to mass production.

2. A 19-inch qFHD Transparent AMOLED for TVs and monitors: World's first large-screen transparent AMOLED production prototype
SMD is showing the world’s first large transparent AMOLED Display prototype, designed for use in applications from PC monitors to TVs.

Whether the prototype AMOLED display is turned off or on, it maintains up to a 30% transparency. The average amount of transparency elsewhere has been below 10 percent.

SMD’s transparent AMOLED prototype provides the highest resolution on a transparent large screen TV (over 19 inches) or monitor display.

Uses may include searching the Internet while watching TV, or watching TV on windows, including car windows for backseat passengers.

SMD will also be exhibiting a 14-inch qFHD transparent AMOLED for notebook PCs.

About Samsung Mobile Display
Samsung Mobile Display Co., Ltd (SMD) was established in January 2009 as a joint venture between Samsung Electronics and Samsung SDI. Bringing together Samsung’s cutting-edge technological capabilities in LCD and AMOLED, SMD is committed to providing a comprehensive range of display solutions including AMOLED, LCD in one convenient channel. As a total solution provider, SMD is striving to light up the future with next-generation technologies such as flexible, foldable and transparent displays.

About AMOLED
AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays can go far beyond LCD and plasma with distinct advantages such as vivid color, widest viewing angles, low power consumption, high contrast and extremely fast response times.
1. Vivid colors: Outstanding color reproducibility that will not change in relation to the gray scale;
2. Widest Viewing Angle: Offering extremely clear viewing regardless of viewing angle;
3. Low Power Consumption: Excellent energy efficiency, with minimal power usage;
4. High Contrast: Bright, vivid and remarkably clear viewing with the highest display contrast and wide color reproducibility;
5. Fast Response: Incredibly fast response speeds. Because there is no change in temperature, moving images appear natural, virtually eliminating eye fatigue.

Hot November: The road to CES 2011. A Palm LTE smartphone upcoming ?

WorldWideTech. Francisco De Jesús. Nov. 2 ,2010

Six LTE (4G)  smartphones is going to announce Verizon at CES 2011 Link: http://tinyurl.com/26wkfm4

 And I was trying to get a convergence point to know if at least one of the devices is a new Palm LTE smartphone on that Verizon road.

Verizon has launched already a LTE innovation center website.  Link: http://tinyurl.com/2evvzar

And there is no doubt  Verizon needs a premier debut of their LTE networks . They said will just begin with LTE usb modems , but  Verizon is under Sprint pressure, who will have something big to tell us too, at CES 2011

HP and Palm by the other way will have their announcements, as well. The Palm Pad and new hardware designs for the next generation Palm webOS 2.0 devices. And I won´t be surprised if they come with one of  the 3  announcements , with a LTE  or maybe  with a new kind of Global phone (LTE/Wimax) (GSM/CDMA). Asking too much. Everything is possible.

Palm  need an stunning hardware to go beyond the competition. They have the world best smartphone OS already. HP said will double down the efforts to get Palm on track again. Then  I don´t see reasons to delay a new hardware. Is inminent. Don´t you think. A golden egg maybe.

If the Palm Pre 2 is the cat out of the bag. What is in the bag?

Francisco De Jesús. October 18, 2010

A few days ago I read this article of CNET  “ Palm Pre 2: Is the cat out of the bag? : http://www.cnet.com/8301-17918_1-20019262-85.html and took my attention  : the bag.
But, WHAT IS IN THE BAG? I said.

Some of you on precentral.net front page made  comments  on the CES 2011 post: “A big launch of Palm webOS  devices” ,  “The Super Pre”  “ The Super Phone “ “The Palm Pad”

After reading what Garnet says:

The majority of the impact will be from 7-inch media tablets on high-end smartphones as it will be hard for a user to justify owning both when the differentiation in usage model is very limited. Users buying a 7-inch tablet might opt for a lower priced smartphone with a smaller form factor.”

And making this comparison chart :

I can observe now, to the most known smartphone brands makers (excluding that Samsung Android i9200) ,  are staying away until now from processors with speeds like 1.5, 2 ghz, dual cores or multicores like ARM A15. Link:
Although they did not know this latest Oct 2010 Garnet study (maybe) ,the consumer reaction to the market is about to change.
Time to keep conservative, perphaps, waiting some time for this holidays 2010 tablets launchs season watch.?

Will this Garnet projection come true ?
Is the Android 2.2 Froyo not so accurate as the others smartphones OS (s) ?
Is that the reason why all Androids have more  hardware power than the others?
Will the 3.0 Gingerbread match the others OS (s) ?
If that so, will the others then match the Androids in hardware specifications ?
Too late?  Android for that time will be number one ?

No more cats on the bag? Just the Palm Pad launch for the CES 2011?

Verizon Launching Six 4G Phones at CES 2011

Verizon has said it will roll out its next generation LTE network in 38 cities in the first half of 2011. Not only that, but the network is promising six 4G phones to go along with the rollout.
If you're tired of hearing about your roommate's EVO 4G, then rest assured you won't have to wait long before you can rub your fancy new 4G phone from Verizon in his face. Speaking at CTIA 2010, Verizon president and COO Lowell McAdam said the company's LTE network would go live in 38 cities when it launches in the first half of 2011.
Though McAdam didn't give any specifics when it came to a launch date, the newly-appointed executive did say that we can look forward to the unveiling of half-a-dozen 4G handsets at CES 2011 in January. While that's no indication of an LTE roll-out, it's hard to imagine the network announcing phones six months in advance, especially when you consider the speed the smartphone industry moves at.
Verizon's CES keynote has been confirmed for months now with CEO Ivan Seidenberg named as the representative doing all the talking. However, up until now it's been a mystery as to what the keynote would be about. McAdam didn't mention anything else about the company's CES event but that doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be an occasion dedicated to just 4G technology. We'll keep you posted on this one.

Palm and HP will be at CES 2011 Jan 6-9. Time for the webostablet or smartphone, or both?

Francisco De Jesús September 29, 2010

As you can see  on the links below. I made a search on the exhibitors CES 2011 directory and found that Palm will be at the booth N246 and HP at the booth 31412.(images information below) Right time for an announcement of the new Palm Pad webos tablet, a new Palm webos smartphone or both? For sure the next ePrint HP printer all in one with the  Palm Pad bundle would be interesting to see, as well.

Those probably new devices will be LTE 4G ready? able to stream live videos and capable to pair to each other, keeping the Foleo concept?

The tablet and the smartphone with a ARM Cortex A15 (8 cores),perhaps ?

What do you expect?

The Palm Pad may look like this? : HP Palm: The Weblet (webos tablet) mock up. Made by brentidowney, Canada.
