"The GSMA warmly congratulates all those nominated in the 2014 Global Mobile Awards," said Michael O'Hara, Chief Marketing Officer, GSMA. "We saw a record level of interest in the Global Mobile Awards this year, with more than 680 quality submissions, making it a very challenging task for our judges to select the short list. We very much look forward to recognising the winners at Mobile World Congress next month."

Several new categories have been introduced in the 2014 awards and, in total, 38 awards will be presented over eight categories, with six new awards showcasing evolving trends across the mobile ecosystem. Among the new awards, the 'Best Mobile Handset and Devices' category now has two smartphone awards that reflect the rapid growth of the smartphone market and recognise the positive impact of affordable devices. There have also been enhancements in the 'Best Mobile Technology' category, 'Social and Economic Development' category and the 'Apps of the Year' category, amongst others.

The Global Mobile Awards ceremony will begin at 14.30 in Hall 4, Auditorium 1. The ceremony is open to Mobile World Congress attendees from all shortlisted companies, regardless of pass type, as well as all other Mobile World Congress attendees holding Platinum, Gold, Silver or Press/Analyst passes.

The winners of the Government Leadership Awards, which recognise governments from around the world for their innovation and leadership in use of mobile technologies in the public sector, will be announced in a separate ceremony on Monday, 24th February.

The award for the 'Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet at Mobile World Congress 2014′ will be identified and selected from those on show at the event. The shortlist for this award will be announced on both Mobile World Live TV and the Global Mobile Awards website on 26th February, with the winner being honoured in a live presentation on Mobile World Live TV the following day.
