The José Joaquín de Olmedo Guayaquil airport was designated by the Airports Council International (ACI ) as the best in Latin America and the Caribbean , based on a survey of users of the airports around the world, in the framework of 2013 Airport Service Quality .
In second place is the airport in Cancun ( Mexico ) , who last year became the first. While airports in Montego Bay ( Jamaica) , Nassau ( Bahamas) and Puerto Vallarta ( Mexico ) occupy the third , fourth and fifth, respectively .
In addition, the José Joaquín de Olmedo won second place in the category Best airport in the world by size, 2-5 million passengers per year , the first place was taken by the terminal Changchun ( China) .
The airports of Ottawa (Canada ), Halifax (Canada) and Grand Rapids (USA ) took the following places .
The airport in Guayaquil receives about 4.5 million passengers a year and is currently being expanded to increase its capacity to 7 million. Furthermore, it is planned to build a new airport in Daular , on the road to the coast.
